Pastor Daniel Olson

Pastor Dan graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI in 2006 with a Masters of Divinity degree. Upon graduation, he was called to serve as Associate Pastor at Sure Foundation and is very excited to be a part of the Ministry Team in Queens. His previous pastoral ministry experiences include mission work & pastoral assistant in Galesville & Arcadia, WI; urban outreach in the central city of Milwaukee, WI; and a pastoral assistant position in Oak Creek, WI. Pastor Dan and his family spent two months in Quito, Ecuador to continue to build on their language skills and appreciation for the Latino culture. Pastor Dan focuses his efforts on Building Relationships for Jesus through ambitious outreach efforts in Queens and throughout the New York City metro area.

A Timeline of Sure Foundation

  • November 2007 - Sure Foundation temporarily relocates to another location for worship services because of delays in construction. Services are held in the chapel of a local private school.
  • October 2007 - Pastor Steve Gabb accepts call to a church in Los Angeles and says good-bye to a number of friends.
  • May, 2007 - Sure Foundation decides to vacate building for two months from mid-June to mid-August, 2007 in order to simplify and expedite renovation process
  • April 15, 2007 - Sure Foundation changes worship format from one bilingual service to two services, one in English and one in Spanish
  • February, 2007 - Building Project commences with demolition
  • January/February, 2007 - Olson family travels to Quito, Ecuador for Spanish language and culture immersion
  • August 27, 2006 - Dan Olson is ordained and installed as pastor at Sure Foundation Lutheran Church
  • August 20, 2006 - Olson family arrives in New York City
  • June 30, 2006 - Meiers relocate to Wisconsin
  • May 25, 2006 - Daniel Olson is called to serve as Associate Pastor at Sure Foundation
  • May, 2006 - Sure Foundation says good-bye to Pastor Michael Roth who relocates to Austin, TX
  • April, 2006 - First worship service held in the new space! No, the renovation isn't complete, but we held our Easter service in the raw space as a "ground-breaking" for the renovation project
  • March, 2006 - Meiers annouce they are moving out of New York at the end of June; the WELS North Atlantic District Mission Board grants request for Sure Foundation to replace Jon with a pastor graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, to be assigned in May, 2006
  • February, 2006 - Sure Foundation signs construction contract with AENArchitects who immediately applies for construction permits of the New York City Department of Buildings
  • December, 2005 - Sure Foundation decides to search for new construction firm to complete renovation as Dakota Consulting hasn't performed as promised
  • September, 2005 - Sarah Gabb takes over ESL program
  • September, 2005 - Jon Meier assumes role as Evangelist
  • May, 2005 - After four intensive weeks of training, Sarah Gabb receives certificate to Teach English to Speakers of Other Language (TESOL) from Rennert Bilingual in New York, NY
  • May, 2005 - After months of negotiating, Sure Foundation signs building contract with Dakota Consulting Corp
  • March, 2005 - Sure Foundation records highest indoor worship attendance ever: Easter, 2005 - 55 people!
  • March, 2005 - WELS North Atlantic District Mission Board approves Sure Foundation's request to add Sarah Gabb to the Ministry Team as the ESL Program Director, moving Jon Meier into the role of an evangelist
  • November, 2004 - After Kwake Plumbing moves out, Sure Foundation takes possession of entire space located at 64-20/22 Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside
  • August, 2004 - Sure Foundation, with the help of the WELS Board for Home Missions and WELS Church Extension Fund, become proud owners of two properties in Woodside, Queens, New York. By God's grace, these properties include the same space that Sure Foundation rented since the summer of 2000. Therefore, no relocation is necessary.
  • June-July, 2004 - Staff Minister Jon Meier and wife, BethAnn, travel to Quito, Ecuador for 2 months of intensive Spanish language and culture immersion
  • January-March, 2004 - Pastor Roger Sprain and his wife, Ruth, from Phoenix, AZ serve Sure Foundation while Gabbs are in Mexico
  • December, 2003 - Pastor Steven Gabb and family begin four month Spanish immersion in Oaxaca City, Mexico. Pastor Roger Sprain from Phoenix, AZ fills the vacancy
  • September, 2003 - Sure Foundation Ministry Team is granted permission to find a larger facility
  • Labor Day Weekend, 2003 - 53 people board a bus to spend the weekend in the Birkshire Mountains of Massachusetts
  • August, 2003 - Indelethio Nebeker relocates family to Louisiana
  • July, 2003 - Manhattan worship group relocates back to Woodside, Queens to pool all Sure Foundation resources and focus in one location
  • June-July, 2003 - Face lift given to ESL program resulting in highest attendance to date
  • April, 2003 - Third annual "Easter Extravaganza" is very successful including praise band from San Jose and record attendance
  • April, 2003 - Pastor Michael Roth relocates to New York City to work on his Ph.D. and assumes role as Ministry Consultant at Sure Foundation
  • March, 2003 - Jonathan Meier is added to the Sure Foundation Ministry Team as the Director of Operations
  • March, 2003 - Pastor Aaron Robinson moves to St. Paul, MN to teach in a Christian high school
  • 2002 - ESL program gains popularity and recognition in the community
  • April, 2002 - Sure Foundation opens satellite worship location in Manhattan
  • September, 2001-May, 2002 - In cooperation with five Tri-State churches and our parent denomination, Sure Foundation coordinates and administers the distribution of $380,749 to victims and families of the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001
  • January, 2001 - Staff Minister Indelethio Nebeker is added to ministry team to oversee the ESL program
  • November, 2000 - English as a Second Language (ESL) program is formed
  • October, 2000 - Twelve people from four of the five boroughs, New Jersey, and one dog meet for the first Sure Foundation worship service in newly remodeled storefront facility in Woodside, Queens
  • August, 2000 - Two pastors, Steven Gabb and Aaron Robinson are installed as missionaries in New York City
  • Pre-August, 2000 - Energetic, creative Christians meet in their apartments for worship and Bible study
