Sure Foundation to vacate for 2 months

May 16th, 2007 by Steven Gabb

After working around us in our 4600 ft2 space for a couple of months, complications have made it rather difficult for the construction crew to complete their work. Even though they are not working in the second floor section of the building that we are using, services, i.e. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc. that are connected to our space have made the process slow and complicated. So, about 2 weeks ago, our General Contractor (GC) proposed 2 scenarios: 1) Either we maintain the status quo, i.e. the construction crew continue to work around us in the building; or 2) We vacate the building for 2 months, giving them full use of the space, allowing them to complete the job with much fewer complications and, therefore, in far less time. We choose the latter of the 2 options. Our GC told us that this should cut down construction time by about 4 months! We plan to vacate on June 18th and move back in on August 18th by which time a majority of the renovation should be complete!

During this 2 month period, the staff will work out of their home offices and move a majority of the Bible classes and visits from the church into homes. In addition, our GC has offered to make space available to us for limited use, i.e. worship use on Sunday mornings and ESL classes on some weeknights, guaranteeing electrical services during those times.

We are optimistic that this ‘vacation’, though it may sound like a big inconvenience, will bring us closer together as a congregation as we are shifted around from Sunday to Sunday and from space to space, remembering Christ’s promise in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” Also, this process will build excitement within the Sure Foundation Family as we will get to see, on a weekly basis, our raw space transformed into our new church home.
