New Pastor!

May 26th, 2006 by Steven Gabb

On May 25, Dan Olson was assigned as Sure Foundation’s third pastor and seventh staff member!

Due to the Meier’s planned relocation this summer, Sure Foundation requested that a graduate from the senior class of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary be called to replace Jon. That request was granted. Pastor Steve had the privilege of attending the Call Service in Mequon, WI during which the assignments of the Seminary class of 2006 were announced. He also met Pastor Dan and his wife, Katie, who are very excited to move to New York and serve the Lord at Sure Foundation. The couple has 1 daughter, Maddy, who is 14 months old and they are expected their second child in July!

Dan Olson is preceded by Pastors Aaron Robinson (2000-2003) & Roger Sprain (Jan-April, 2004) as well as Staff Ministers Indelethio Nebeker (2001-2003) & Jon Meier (2003-present). Pastor Michael Roth (2003-2006), who was never officially called to serve at Sure Foundation has also been instrumental in the development of Sure Foundation. Pastor Dan will serve with Pastor Steve (2000-present) and Sarah Gabb(2005-present), our ESL Director.

We thank and praise the Lord for blessing us with our next pastor and we look forward to working with Pastor Dan and his family as, together, we continue to ‘Build Relationships for Jesus’!

Patience is a Virtue!

May 22nd, 2006 by Steven Gabb

While we are very pleased with the work that AENArchitects has done so far (they had drawings ready to be submitted for the construction permit long before we even signed a contract!), it is a slow process. We signed with AEN in February of this year (2006) and they immediately filed the application for the construction permit with the New York City Department of Buildings (NYCDOB). At the end of May, we are still waiting to obtain the permit. We have had to change a few things in the design and we are also seeking to get a few items waived by the NYCDOB. Our construction timeline has been pushed back a bit. Lord-willing, we will start the work in July and complete the project around the end of this calendar year. Meanwhile, Sure Foundation members have donated their time and talents to prepare the space for renovation. After at least three 30-yard containers of debris have been hauled away over the past year and a half, the space is broom clean and ready to go with the renovation. This has truly been a test of patience, yet we continue trusting that the Lord always knows what is best for us and that he always does his good and gracious will on his timeline.
