Baptism on the Equator

January 29th, 2007 by Daniel Olson

This week was the same in that we went to classes and did our homework. But this weekend was filled with a lot of traveling. We went to the equator on Saturday to a little town called “La Mitad del Mundo,” which means the Middle of the World. Obviously there is a lot of tourism there. They have numerous restaurants, shops, museums and a large monument right on the equator. The real purpose for this trip, however, wasn’t to site see, it was to baptize a child. We obviously don’t have a church down here so we had to do it somewhere. Why not somewhere special like the middle of the world? Christopher Alfred Guiracocha Jiménez received the forgiveness of sins and became a child of God this past Saturday through the water and the word in baptism. Please keep him in your prayers. What made this a little more special for Katie and me is that we were asked to be is God-parents of Christopher. It was a great weekend that I know I´ll never forget.

A trip to the outskirts of Quito

January 22nd, 2007 by Daniel Olson

Hello everyone. This past weekend we had the opportunity to do some traveling. We went to a nearby town called Guayllambamba which had a Zoo. It was nice to get a little sample of a small town and how the people live there. Plus we were able to go with Lupita’s daughter, Paola and her cousin, Juan Carlos. They have been taking bible classes with me because they heard from Lupita that our church teaches something important. I couldn’t agree with her more! I pray that everything is going well for all of you. Please continue to keep us in your prayers.

A message from Pastor Dan

Hello from south of the equator! Yes, we made it safe and sound to Quito, Ecuador and everything is going well. We are living with a great family who take care of the girls while Katie and I are in class. They are very kind and it’s a relief to know that our children are in good hands. Our main purpose for this trip to Ecuador is to work on our Spanish. But it never ceases to amaze me how God uses others for his own purposes to further his kingdom. In this first week alone we’ve had the opportunity to share our faith on four different occasions to about 10 people. God works in mysterious ways! I pray that everything is going well for all of you. Please continue praying for my family and me. God bless!
